Darn it, now I want the XMFC fic where Charles and Erik are bunnies.

Occasionally, Raven allows her pet rabbit out into the backyard. Charles is a curious rabbit — he doesn’t stray out into the forest at the back of the property, but he’ll explore every corner, always hopping back when he catches her within his sight.

Which is why, one day when she goes inside for a scant few minutes to the bathroom, returns and doesn’t see a cuddly blob of soft brown fur running towards her after five minutes, Raven starts to panic.

“Charles,” she calls, worried, and when nothing but the chip of a cricket answers her, she repeats in a louder, firmer voice, “Charles!”

She finds him two hours later. He’s on the very edge of the property, just hidden behind a tree, cuddled up to a rather large, russet-furred rabbit, who, when it sees Raven approach, tries to lunge at her, snapping its jaws. (It is, she decides, most decidedly male.) She stops and stares, a little torn between her anger at Charles, her utter bewilderment at such strange aggression from an animal that’s so small and fluffy, and the sheer cuteness of the two huddled together.

“I am,” she says slowly down at Charles, who stares at her with wide, innocent eyes, “very mad at you. I can’t believe you ran off on me — for a hook-up.”

Charles twitches his nose, edging towards her, but not so close that his fur is unable to stay in contact with the other very large, rather mean-eyed rabbit. Charles swings his head from the other rabbit (Raven privately names him Erik — it’s a strong name. She gets the feeling he’d maul her if she tried to name him something cute. Like Mr. Fluffy or something) to her, his already large blue eyes growing big and dewy.

She groans, almost quite sure of what he wants. “Oh no,” she says, trying to steel herself. “Don’t you make me — Charles! What if he’s got fleas?” Erik makes a strange noise somewhere in between and a growl and a bleat of offense, pressing closer to Charles and rubbing his reddish fur over Charles’s spine defiantly.

“Oh nobody asked you,” Raven says irritably, and then to Charles again, “How exactly did this happen? The last time I checked, you were trying to cozy up to Sean’s Moira. Though — I guess this is for the best; he still hasn’t forgiven me for you making the moves on her.”

She sighs, crouching down beside them. Erik tenses, muscles coiled tight until Charles noses his flank comfortingly, allowing her to scoop them both up into her arms.

“I have a feeling you tend to defy rules, but listen anyways,” she says to Erik severely as she carries them in over the threshold. “Don’t be bringing in any strays. I won’t be paying for your babies’ upkeep. No matter how cute they are. I know your kind — always got sex on the brain. Doesn’t matter the species.”

This, however, doesn’t stop three new bunnies from being added to the family next week, and then after a month, a pair of small, barely furred bodies (one white and the other a dark red-brown) wriggling against Charles’s belly. Raven glares at Erik, who stares at her smugly from his his place on the couch.

“I can’t believe you.” Leave it to him, she thinks sourly, to overcome biological impossibilities.

He twitches his nose. She’s sure he’d smirk if he could.

She narrows her eyes in return. “Don’t make me withhold your celery.”

Erik huffs, hopping over to Charles to nuzzle him through the opened hatch. “I mean it,” she calls after him, still determined to have the last word. “Remember who actually feeds you!”

No respect here. No respect at all.
